PODCAST EXCERPT Brett was 26, $67,000 in debt and living with his parents. In desperation he devised a plan to get himself out of the hole he was in. He decided to rob a bank. The media nick-named him the Bearded Bandit. The judge told Brett "You're a lucky man Mr Ryan, you have a family behind you. I think that family will stick with you". Brett was released from prison in late 2010 and returned to live with his family. A year- and-a-half later he moved in with Kristen and the couple were engaged. Sue wasn't expecting to see her son that day. He tried to persuade her not to tell Kristen, but she wouldn't change her mind. Their discussion escalated in to an argument. He walked out of the house and strode over to the garage. His mother followed him. He didn't have time to load the crossbow so he grabbed a bolt.
