PODCAST EXCERPT In Arleta, California Michele who was nicknamed Missy met Karen Severson and Laura Doyle and the three girls became best friends. They were close like sisters and shared Barbies, sleepovers and giggled over boys. Missy was smart and attended a class for gifted children but in high school the lure of a good time was too hard to pass up. She and Karen began skipping classes and fell behind. The two girls shared a tight bond, but with Karen, it became more like an obsession, she became oddly possessive of Missy. When they entered junior high, the friends who’d be so close for a decade began to drift apart. Karen became a single mom, her time was now spent with babies and bottles and she became jealous of Missy’s freedom and popularity. Karen and Laura’s jealousy of Missy escalated to hatred.
