PODCAST EXCERPT Dixie grew up in a big family, a flower child who walked to her own drum beat. By 1995, she and her husband Tom Bray had divorced. Dixie was now a single mom looking after two teenage girls and a young son. Seventeen-year-old Amber a cheerleader, attended a church youth group and was on the honour roll in high school. But then she began skipping school which led to arguments with her mother, Dixie. Amber’s teenage resentment evolved into hatred and she fantasized what life would be like without her mother. Amber began dating 21-year-old Jeffrey Ayers. For months the star- struck lovers exchanged letters and imagined what married life would be like. Slowly, Amber created the perfect storm. She convinced Jeffrey that in order for their new life to begin together, her old life had to disappear.
